Hello Parents!!!
Wow, December and January flew by! Homeroom: Thank you all so much for the snacks you have been providing! I was about to send out an email asking for more and then we had more donated before I could! Our homeroom learned about the States of Matter last week and we have been attending Ms. Bre's class this week for Social Studies! We've had a few review days in Social Skills and I was able to assess everyone on their progress with the Zones of Regulation and with sensory needs. We had a fun guest speaker in January! A karate teacher came to our 2nd grade classes and gave a lesson on how to respect teachers and parents! We also learned about focusing and positive thinking! It was so much fun! Language: We have almost completed PALS Testing and we have completed DIBELS Testing. I'm so excited to let you know that all of our students have made significant progress in reading, spelling, and writing! I'm sure we will keep up the hard work for the next two terms! Group 1: We will be finishing up learning about double letter words (fall, cuff, hiss) and will soon start to learn words with the an and am sounds and words that end in s (pans, cats). Group 2: We are continuing to work on reading 1st Grade passages with comprehension and we are reviewing how to sound out cvc, ccvc, and cvcc words. Group 3: We are continuing to work on reading 2nd Grade passages with comprehension. Math: We have finished up our addition/subtraction with single digit numbers unit and our graphing unit. We will be learning about measurement and addition/subtraction with double digit numbers next. I will be sending home graphing activities for the Boxes sometime next week! Language
Group 1: We are able to read cvc words and words with consonant digraphs! We are also spelling cvc words and words with consonant digraphs. We learned that words starting with the /c/ and /k/ sound start with just c or k and words that end with the /c/ and /k/ sound end with ck. Group 2: We are working on reading words that end with a y like 'try' and 'cry' and words that contain ar, ee, e. l, and, ea, or oo. Group 3: We are reading 2nd grade books and then answering comprehension questions. Math: We have finished up our shapes and fractions unit. We are continuing to work on subtraction and will be starting graphing! Science: We are learning about the weather! Social Skills: We talked about and practiced listening to others.
